Ghiandola parotide

È stato riportato un caso di dislocazione della ghiandola parotide da un lato, con l'intera ghiandola situata sul muscolo massetere. La ghiandola può estendersi fino al ramo della mandibola per ricoprire il muscolo buccinatore. Ne è stata registrata anche l'assenza. Il dotto parotideo può essere sdoppiato.

Tessuto ghiandolare parotideo accessorio può trovarsi disposto lungo il decorso del dotto parotideo. Frommer ha riportato che nel 21% di novantasei dissezioni era presente tessuto ghiandolare parotideo accessorio distaccato, a distanze variabili dalla ghiandola principale.

Sistrunk (1921) ha riportato per il tumore della parotide un'incidenza tanto bassa quanto lo 0,006%, ma il trattamento della lesione è gravato da grandi difficoltà sul piano anatomico e chirurgico.
